The Zen Arcade, WMMT's biweekly indie rock and musical ephemera extravaganza, presents the 3rd Annual Bonnaroo Previoo!
Tuesday night, June 9, 7-10PM EDT. I'll be playing three hours of Bonnaroo bands: listen in to find out what you don't want to miss!
88.7 WMMT-FM in Whitesburg, KY, or if you have the misfortune to live outside the area, you can stream it at http://www.wmmtfm.org.
And don't miss the official show blog at http://www.thezenarcade.com, where I'm posting YouTube previews all week and I'll be liveblogging the hell out of the proceedings in Manchester.

| hey! |
[26 May 2009|06:41pm] |
I've found reasonably priced airline tickets for my friend and me to the Nashville airport, the only problem is that I don't have $120 to get the shuttle to Manchester.
Is anybody going to be around the airport on wednesday around 12:30 in the afternoon, or on thursday around 6:30 in the evening?
or basically anytime on wednesday or thursday? I haven't gotten any replies on the Bonnaroo site, or on Inforoo, and I really don't want to hitch hike, but I feel like i'm going to have to.
I can definitely throw in some gas money (just not $120)
Please let me know if you can help!

Going to Roo again after a 3 year hiatus. The line up last year was frighteningly anti-Roo, so I did not consider going.
My hope it that the return of Phish (for 2 shows!) along with a few other staple acts will restore the goodness vibe.

After seeing the Rothbury lineup announced, which brings back nothing but bad memories of a wasted bob dylan at the roo 2004, I think the roo has the best lineup of anyone this summer. Hope I can make it!

| ticket question |
[21 Feb 2009|02:27pm] |
My friend got a group together to go to Bonnaroo this year. They already got their tickets and then asked me if I wanted to come along.
I haven't decided yet. When do you estimate is the latest I could wait until to decide to get my ticket? (Heh, did I phrase that right?)
Thanks!
Oh yeah, duh, first timer here.

has anybody been?
i know they are at a new venue, new state this year, so it will be different in some ways than years past. But if anyone has been... what's the vibe like? the natural setting? the amount of people? the size of the camp grounds? how close everyone is to each other? the stage setups?
i don't like Bonnaroo's lineup this year, and the vibe has been off the last two years. I've been looking at the other festivals, and i've heard good things about AllGood and Bisco. However, Wakarusa's lineup is sick, and when they added Shpongle and Black Crowes, that pretty much sealed the deal. Rothbury and 'Roo would have to come with some ridiculous heat to even strike a match to what Wakarusa is offering this year. (and its half the ticket price, and for me, half the distance to Roth).

Tom Petty & tHBs at 2006 will always be my favorite performance though...
However... this was my 4th year and it... was... AWESOMELY AMAZING TO THE MAX!!! I had some of the COOLEST neighbors ever, who became like family by Friday night. Plus all the other GREAT people I met. ALL the music was top notch, except that poser and his glow in the dark puppets, but whateva. This year renewed my faith in alot of things, except that you people will clean up after yourselves... jebus guys, there's trash cans EVERYWHERE, it shouldn't look like that every night! Other than that, IT ALL ROCKED! Thanks to everyone for making it a weekend that I'll NEVER FORGET!!!!!
Top 5 Shows 1) Disco Biscuits 2) Jack Johnson 3) Robert Randolph Revival 4) BB King 5) Charli2na backed by the greatest band in the world, GALACTIC
Other notables... Pearl Jam, Stephen Marley, LES CLAYPOOL, MSTRKRFT, Wood Brothers, Lez Zepplin, Dark Star Orchestra, Phil Lesh & Friends, Plant/Krauss/Burrnett, Ozmatli
Discoveries... Grupo Fantasamo, Battles, MIA, Chromeo
Favorite Vendor Wormtown Trading Co.
This year really blew me out of the water with the caliber of music and the great people that I met at every turn. The weather was awesome and we really couldn't have asked for much better. I went to the silent disco for the first time since '05. Still have to ride that damn ferris wheel and tag the wall, so, I guess......
that I'll probably be seeing everyone next year... or possible at Rothbury, if that gets any better, I won't be able to pass it up...

This was my fourth Bonnaroo, and almost certainly the best. At least, it rivals 2006, which used to the be best. I had an amazing time, and it has been so hard to focus on the real world since I've been back.
Anyway, I just wanted to share the highlights.
Top Five Shows (almost everything I saw was good, though):
1. Pearl Jam!!!! 2. Jack Johnson 3. Death Cab 4. Donovan Frankenreiter 5. The Super Jam: Gogol Bordello and Les Claypool
Best Discovery: Swell Season and Grupo Fantasma
Best Vendor: The Samosa Man (oh my god -- tofu samosas with homemade hot sauce!)
Camp Luna Moth, our usual bunch, had a few new faces and we were only 10 minutes from Centeroo, even after a tequila and eggs breakfast.
I finally made my way to the silent disco and LOVED it!
Best Bonnaroo weather ever: enough rain to keep the dust down, and enough sun to keep me smiling.
And under the cut are a few of my favorite pictures, for your viewing pleasure: ( Read more... )

Making us wait almost two hours for a show that didn't even last an hour because his egotistical ass didn't want to play at the same time as anyone else. What a prick. I'm glad most of the artists I saw on Sunday felt the same way and said so, especially Robert Randolph.
